Air Fryer Kale Chips

Air fryer kale chips are impossibly light, crispy and savory — a guilt-free snack ready in under 10 minutes. The gentle, even heat of the air fryer dries them into shatter-crisp chips without burning the delicate edges.
A dusting of nutritional yeast gives them a cheesy, umami flavor. Once you start, the whole batch disappears fast.
Ingredients
Instructions
Season
Make sure the kale is completely dry. In a large bowl, toss it with the olive oil, nutritional yeast and salt, massaging lightly so every leaf is coated.
Air fry
Add to the basket (don't overfill) and air fry at 300°F for about 5–6 minutes, opening to shake halfway, until crisp but still green.
- Dry the kale thoroughly — any water turns to steam and ruins the crisp.
- Low and slow: 300°F keeps them from burning before they crisp.
- Watch closely at the end — kale goes from crisp to burnt in seconds.
Frequently asked
How long do kale chips take in the air fryer?
About 5–6 minutes at 300°F, shaking once. Pull them while still green — they crisp more as they cool.
Why are my kale chips burning?
The temperature is too high or they cooked too long. Use 300°F and check from 4 minutes on.
What is nutritional yeast?
A cheesy-tasting, dairy-free flake that adds umami. Swap in garlic or onion powder, or grated Parmesan, if you prefer.
